COMMUNICATION
Our meeting focused on completing two different challenge tasks using our communication skills. For the first challenge students had to try to describe a structure to build out of blocks. The structure was hidden and one of the team members had to try to describe how it was built. The objective was for their team members to recreate the structure.
Our second challenge involved shoes. Working with a partner, shoeless students had to try to describe their shoes that were left in a pile.
From these activities we learned that you needed to trust that you would get the proper directions and needed patience. We found that our frustration came when the descriptions weren't specific enough.
One student shared that, as a builder for the block activity, "it was frustrating because I wanted to do it all by myself. I couldn't touch the blocks and people weren't hearing or understanding me."
We related these activities our daily lives and group projects at school in which it is sometimes hard to communicate. Finally, we discussed what makes a good communicator; someone that tries to explain something in many different ways and has patience.
